BBQs are a staple in backyards, but they are always really bland and boring. I decided to take mine from something that stuck out in a bad way to something that stands out in the best way. This project definitely proves you can make anything better with a little love and attention.

  1. Prep. Clean the BBQ to remove any dirt. Remove any handles or attachments that won’t be painted. If there are any areas with a glossy finish that will be painted, be sure to scuff those areas up with sandpaper to help the paint stick.
  2. Spray BBQ to one solid background colour with Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat. I chose to make mine a solid black.
  3. Lay stencil down. I made my own stencil for this project but there are many pre-made stencils available.
  4. Spray the desired colours. Be sure to tape off any areas you don’t want sprayed when using multiple colours. Regular painter’s tape works great for this.
  5. Remove the stencil and allow the paint to dry – and then enjoy your new decorative BBQ!
